Reflections:
Introduction to databases was a prerequisite track course I took my first semester in the MMI program. The format of an online program was a new experience thus I was uncertain about what to expect. I was concerned since there was much discussion among the MMI students regarding their level of disappointment as the program moved to an asynchronous format.
Dr. Akawwi set the bar extremely high with his approach to teaching in the new format. Few others of the staff have come close to meeting my expectations after taking his course. His methods should be a model for the rest of the program. Each week I was able to view the pre-recorded lectures and participate in the interactive multimedia presentations. Personally, this format allowed me to view the lectures on my own schedule, starting and stopping the recordings as I needed so I could learn at my own pace and still carryout my work obligations .
That being said regarding the format, the course was very content heavy and sometimes overwhelming especially since I was taking the telecommunications course as well as working. By no means do I feel that I am a database expert but now,I have a broad knowledge base and
background . I am able to have an intelligent conversation with a database developer, due to my deeper understanding of how the process works.
